Join the Ewen's Room Board and shape our work in the future.
Wanted: Trustees to take Ewen’s Room into 2026 and beyond!
We are Ewen’s Room, a grassroots mental health and wellbeing charity based in Lochaber and the Western Highlands. We support people of all ages, especially young people, through services like free counselling, creative workshops, youth groups, and community drop-ins to improve mental wellbeing and reduce stigma. Our work grew out of community need and is driven by local people and professionals committed to making mental health support accessible and welcoming.
What a Trustee Does
As a Trustee of Ewen’s Room, you help guide and strengthen the charity by looking after its long-term vision, governance and use of resources. Trustees work with staff and volunteers to make key decisions, ensure we’re well run, and that our services reach the people who need them most. In this role you’ll bring your skills and perspective to board discussions, help shape strategy, and make sure we do good work ethically and sustainably.
Our work is rooted in lived experience, compassionate support, inclusivity and community-led care; we strive to reach isolated, rural communities, young people and families who may otherwise have limited access to mental-health services. Ewen’s Room’s activities are delivered by paid staff and session workers. We employ an Operations Manager who oversees the day-to-day running of the charity, and who is supported by a fundraising officer, an education projects coordinator and six local Wellbeing Officers.

Time commitment
- Trustees meet every 3 months for around 2 hours. Meetings are usually online via Teams.
- Prior to the meetings, Trustees are sent reports of the charities activities, financials and any other relevant papers – reading these will take around 2 additional hours.
- Your expertise may be sought by the charities staff team at various times, and the exact time commitment will be discussed at the time.
- Some roles, such as Chair and Treasurer, have additional oversight duties of the staff team. They spend an additional 4 to 8 hours per month. If you are interested in moving into one of these roles specifically in the future, please let us know.
- We envisage an initial commitment of at least three years to enable meaningful contribution and development.
